The Troubling Pedophilic Backstory of “Into The Night” by Benny Mardones

In the first episode of Sick Burns, we discuss the troubling *possibly* pedophilic backstory of yacht rack staple, Into the Night, by Cleveland-born crooner Benny Mardones. It’s easy to get lost in the catchy hook of the song, and in Mardones’ powerful vocal, but hold up — is this song about a grown man chasing after a teenage girl? You bet it is.

He says the song was inspired after his songwriting partner wagged his tongue over one of his young neighbors. Got that? It’s not *him* being pervy, it was that guy.

The video suggests he’s also kind of into it, though, and the white van in the background, his creepy crawl through a window, and the make-out sesh on a magic carpet are all extremely problematic. His sleeveless striped top does not help matters.

Let’s take a look at the video:

This is troubling. He’s in his 30’s. She’s just 16, as he tells us in the song’s first line. Will the fools keep them separated?

Are you wondering if they kiss? Yes, yes they do. Right in front of the Empire State Building. Ew.
Benny’s got Damone vibes, am I right?
